Absolutely PR Wraps Up Ten-Year Consulting Relationship with the Colorado BioScience Association

Absolutely Public Relations completed ten years of consulting the Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) last month, retiring from the contractual commitment. The announcement is made by Absolutely PR Principal/Founder Maggie Chamberlin Holben, APR, who says, “I proactively ended this long, productive and valuable client relationship after a decade in order to redefine how I deliver PR consulting services to clients going forward. Absolutely PR, founded in April 1999, remains open, and I will be taking on projects of a lesser scope than in the past to allow more personal time for travel and relaxation with my family.” Absolutely PR also remains a CBSA member company.

Since April 2005 when CBSA began its proactive media relations program with Absolutely PR's assistance, there have been 1,588 recorded print editorial media placements featuring Colorado Bioscience Association, which is the equivalent of $1,037,078.72 if the same of space was purchased as advertising. This exposure totals 61,588,714 in circulation and is in addition to those same articles also appearing in online versions of the various publications. Online exposure (reported starting in 2009, totals 1,128,221,316). Geographic readership focus of the placement outlets (international, national/trade and regional/local) to date breaks out accordingly: 2% have been international; 47% national/trade; and 51% regional/local since we began monitoring.

Here is a sampling of placement highlights from the past decade of CBSA’s PR program lead by Absolutely PR:

In 2006, Absolutely PR was named CBSA Partner of the Year during the annual Awards Dinner. During the presentation Emcee Rob Reuteman, business editor of the now shuttered Rocky Mountain News, shared these comments on behalf of CBSA: “Holben, founder of Absolutely Public Relations, has worked tirelessly to promote the Colorado bioscience industry message to local and national media. Holben works her public relations magic to promote coverage of Colorado events and industry news. Moreover, she chairs the CBSA Communications Committee, serves on the CBSA Board of Directors, and helps to organize incoming press delegations. She coordinates the industry’s media initiatives with CBSA partners, such as the Metro Denver Economic Development Corporation. As a media consultant, Holben represents several of Colorado’s leading bioscience companies. Due to Holben’s professionalism and effort, Colorado’s bioscience industry isn’t such a secret anymore.”

Kentuckiana Medical Center ranked #1 Hospital in Louisville Area for Patient Safety by Consumer Reports

Clarksville, IN - Kentuckiana Medical Center   (KMC), managed by the national healthcare development firm Galichia Hospital Group (GHG - Wichita), is ranked as the #1 Hospital in Louisville Area for Patient Safety by Consumer Reports. The announcement is made jointly by GHG’s Chairman and CEO Joseph P. Galichia, M.D., F.A.C.C., and Michael Phillips, CEO of KMC.

The top ranking was first released March 27, 2014, by WAVE-TV’s Eric Flack, whose report says, "the highest safety score in Consumer Reports for Louisville area hospital ratings is far from a household name. It's the Kentuckiana Medical Center in Clarksville, Indiana...only Kentuckiana Medical Center received an above-average rating for avoiding medical mortality, which is based on how likely patients are to die within 30 days of being admitted for a heart attack, heart failure, or pneumonia.”

Analysts also considered how often surgery patients with serious but treatable complications die in the hospital. Flack’s article and related video are posted at: http://www.wave3.com/story/25094278/report-ranks-kentucky-indiana-below-average. Further, the chart (pictured above) delineating the performance data is found at: http://wave.images.worldnow.com/images/3433137_G.jpg.

Phillips attributes KMC's better patient survival rate to its outstanding heart doctors: Drs. Chris Stavens, John Rumisek, Rob Dowling, and all the other clinicians that care for patients at KMC.

"We have amazing physicians at Kentuckiana Medical Center. Drs. Stavens, Rumasek and Dowling, plus many others are constantly saving the lives of extremely sick people, some of whom were transferred to them from other local hospitals for heart care because the physicians feel being at KMC after a heart attack is the best chance a patient has for survival. Consumer Reports recent performance data has confirmed they are correct."

According to Dr. Rumasek, KMC's Chief of Surgery, "Physicians and clinical staff enjoy practicing at KMC because in this environment and culture patient care comes first. Physicians tell administration what is needed to care for patients at KMC, not the other way around."

GHG’s Dr. Galichia, said, "What is really amazing is that KMC's acuity per patient is higher then the other hospitals in the area. What this means is that heart patients at KMC have survived more often on a per patient basis then heart patients at other local hospitals even though KMC's average patient was sicker. It’s a testament to their dedication to clinical care and high safety standards.”

Dr. John Santa, Medical Director for Consumer Reports Consumer Health Choices, said in the WAVE-TV news article, “Although this data is from people 65 and older, it's a good indication of a hospital's attention to safety. And we find the chance of dying is much higher in some hospitals than others.”

Further, quoting from the Consumer Reports website: “Consumer Reports supports consumers in identifying and choosing high-quality, high-value, products and services, and optimizing their health and wellness. We advocate for public policies and marketplace changes that allow and promote fair, just, and high-value health systems. Consumer Health Choices is where you can find free Consumer Reports resources for patients and their families.” Link for more information at: http://consumerhealthchoices.org.

Kentuckiana Medical Center Opens New Emergency Room (ER), Promising a 15-Minute Or Less Wait Time

Kentuckiana Medical Center (KMC), now managed by the national healthcare development firm Galichia Hospital Group (GHG), has opened its new Emergency Department and offers ER patients a wait time of 15 minutes or less. The announcement is made by GHG’s Chairman & CEO Joseph P. Galichia, M.D., F.A.C.C., who says: “Our group has had extensive hands-on experience running an Emergency Department at a hospital much like KMC, and proven our ability to successfully reduce patient wait times for those needing emergency care. We’re thrilled to now be working in Clarksville, helping improve the delivery of emergency and acute medical services to the community.”

Dr. Galichia says the idea for shrinking ER wait times came from discussions on ways to address common emergency room problems people face everyday across America. "The real tragedy," says Dr. Galichia, "is that often patients don't come to the ER because they think whatever's bothering them isn't worth the trouble or the expense of a check up by a physician, or they fear they will be humiliated for making a fuss over nothing. Therefore people experiencing chest pains think they can ride it and they sometimes end up with a heart attack. We’ve learned that early intervention saves lives in emergent situations.”

Galichia Hospital Group Assumes Management of Kentuckiana Medical Center

Galichia Hospital Group (GHG), a national healthcare development firm, has taken over management of the Kentuckiana Medical Center (KMC), Clarksville, IN. The announcement is made by GHG’s Chairman and CEO Joseph P. Galichia, M.D., F.A.C.C., who says: “Our group’s first order of business is the launch of a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department at the medical center, followed by an increase in patient rooms from 34 to 46, of which 12 will include telemetry-monitoring.”

The Galichia organization has relocated Michael Phillips from its Wichita, Kansas, headquarters to Clarksville to serve as KMC’s CEO and lead the medical center’s expansion efforts going forward. Previously, Mr. Phillips served as the CEO for Galichia Medical Group, a large and growing multi-specialty physician group that provides comprehensive medical services to all of Wichita’s hospitals, and throughout the State of Kansas. Mr. Phillips served as a key member of the team that recently negotiated the sale of Galichia Heart Hospital to HCA, which closed February 2012.

Further, at the request of local physicians, KMC is also installing a large scope of new equipment at the facility.

Dr. Galichia explains: "We asked local physicians what tools they needed at Kentuckiana to provide the best possible care to patients, and we’ve purchased exactly what they requested. We had the physicians speak directly to vendors, so the physicians could offer input at every step of the process.

“Like KMC, our group’s Galichia Heart Hospital in Kansas also had its roots in cardiac and surgical care. Further, our team has had extensive hands-on experience adding an Emergency Department to the mix at a hospital much like KMC, and proven our ability to successfully reduce patient wait times for those needing emergency care.

To put it simply, the opportunity to provide leadership at Kentuckiana was a fit in many ways for our organization. We’re thrilled to now be part of the Clarksville community.”

GHG’s philosophy is to give physicians the tools they need to provide the highest quality care for their patients. "Our thinking is, who knows better than physicians how to care for patients, so we give them what they need," Dr. Galichia says, “In fact, for those area physicians reading this announcement who are looking for a ‘Physician Centric" environment to care for patients, we encourage them to contact the KMC management team for details regarding privileges at 812-284-6100.

About Kentuckiana Medical Center

KMC employs close to 200 people and is located just off U.S. 31 in Clarksville, IN, which is part of the greater Louisville Metropolitan area. KMC recently received approval (as of July 30, 2013) for its Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization. KMC has been serving the community of Southern Indiana and Kentucky since 2009, while working to overcome significant financial distress during the 2008-2009 recession. Seiller Waterman, LLC, has exclusively represented the interests of KMC throughout the Chapter 11 process and successfully negotiated agreements with all of the affected creditors of the Plan. The successful confirmation of the Plan in July was a critical turning point for KMC and the subsequent release of payment to creditors on November 7, 2013. The settlement agreement will allow KMC, the physicians, and its new management team to move forward. For more information about Kentuckiana Medical Center, visit http://www.kentuckianamedcen.com.
