Vancouver Sun: 'Fish grown in closed containment systems offer big environmental advantages, proponents say'

Bell Aquaculture and Fish Rich were mentioned in a recent Vancouver Sun article on salmon farming - quoting the Sun:

"But using land-based systems that grow salmon to maturity have a number of advantages over net-pen farming, according to aquaculture systems researcher Steve Summerfelt of the Freshwater Institute in West Virginia.

The advantages can be summed up in a single word: Control...

...Bell Aquaculture uses leftovers from processing - heads, tails, guts and gills - from its yellow perch farm in Indiana to make Fish Rich 2-2-2 Organic Fertilizer, a significant additional revenue stream."

The Aurora Sentinel's Brandon Johansson recently introduced us to the 2012 Boettcher Investigators...

"Three University of Colorado doctors — including two at the Anschutz Medical Campus — have been chosen for a program aimed at helping researchers get a leg up early in their career.

The doctors, Chad Pearson, Matthew Kennedy and Harald Junge, have been named to the 2012 class of Boettcher Investigators in the Webb-Waring Biomedical Research Program.

The program is in its third year and supports scientists at the start of their careers, when support can be hard to come by...

... At Colorado BioScience Association, officials said the program is vital because it helps nurture early-career research that can lead to important discoveries."

April Giles Named President and CEO of the Colorado BioScience Association

April Giles, Executive Vice President of the Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) for the past two and a half years, has been named President and CEO following an extensive national executive search conducted by an ad hoc committee of the CBSA Board of Directors.
The announcement is made by Steve Orndorff, CBSA Board Chairperson and President/CEO of Ariel Pharmaceuticals.

"Our search committee worked very hard to find the best qualified person to lead the CBSA into its next phase of growth. In testament to April's tremendous talent and extensive experience in the association management and bioscience industry, we learned the best person for the job was already part of the CBSA leadership team," Orndorff explains.

Giles replaces Holli Riebel, who resigned in June to accept the Chief Operations Officer position at the Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce. In the interim, Giles had been responsible for the day-to-day operations of the association.

Quoting from the Business Insider article by Seth Levine, managing director at Foundry Group:

"Today we’re launching Colorado Entreprenurial by Nature – a grass roots campaign created by a handful of entrepreneurs in our community to show support of that ecosystem. The goal is simple. We’re giving members of our community an easy way of showing their pride in the entrepreneurial community we’re building in our state. We hope that this will help us both encourage entrepreneurship in our community and attract new entrepreneurs to come to Colorado to start their businesses.

Joining is easy. Head to the Colorado Entrepreneurial by Nature website and download the badge (it comes in a number of different colors and sizes). Display it proudly on your company or personal website. We’ve made some stickers up as well which you can fly proudly on your laptop/car/bike/etc. They’ll be showing up around Denver and Boulder at a handful of coffee shops and other places where entrepreneurs congregate.

If you feel the way I do about Colorado – about living here and working here to support entrepreneurship – I hope you’ll join me in the movement."
