Quoting from the posting:
"The FDA's newly minted plan to revamp its scientific methods isn't enough to ensure that the watchdog agency is doing its part in driving the global economy, according to junior Senator Michael Bennet (CO-D).
'I applaud the FDA's efforts to advance regulatory science through the recent release of the Agency's - Strategic Plan for Regulatory Science -but believe there is much more to be done,' Bennet wrote in a recent letter to FDA head Dr. Margaret Hamburg."
Further, on Monday (Aug 22) Senator Bennet brought FDA Commissioner Hamburg to Colorado, with two administration colleagues for a CEO Roundtable assembled by the Colorado BioScience Association at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

CEO Roundtable: Senator Michael Bennet, FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg at Anschutz Medical Campus Yesterday
The Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) worked with Senator Michael Bennet's office in assembling a group of more than 35 bioscience industry CEOs from its membership to dialogue with the Senator and Margaret Hamburg, M.D., Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Jeffrey Shuren, Director, Center for Devices and Radiological Health, and Dr. Vicki Seyfert-Margolis, Senior Science Advisor to the FDA’s Chief Scientist, accompanied Commissioner Hamburg here.
The announcement is made by Holli Riebel (formerly Baumunk), CBSA President & CEO, who says "Senator Bennet invited Commissioner Hamburg and her colleagues to Colorado for the CEO Roundtable. The session is a positive next step to work CBSA has already contributed to Senator Bennet's Coloradoans For An Innovation Economy (CFAIE), and speaks strongly to the work the Senator is doing on our industry's behalf. We appreciate the opportunity to host Commissioner Hamburg in our state for the first time and share our industry's specific and unique needs for bringing innovative drugs and devices to market under current, often constraining, market conditions."
According to Lilly Marks, VP for Health Affairs and Executive Vice Chancellor, Anschutz Medical Campus, the Roundtable session took place on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora where the FDA delegation also toured research and clinical trial facilities before departing the city.

Lakewood Pet Examiner: "Cat Care Society gearing up for thrift store remodel with huge sale"
Quoting from Carrie Dow's recent posting:
"Cajun's Closet, a thrift store that supports the Cat Care Society in Lakewood, is preparing to close it doors. In two weeks it will re-open as the new and improved "The Closet" at the Cat Care Society. That's means the community can get in on some awesome deals as the store has a sale to clear out the old and bring in even more near new.
On Saturday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the thrift store that received the 2009 "Best of Lakewood" Award is having a "Renovation Sale." Shoppers will get 75% off most merchandise. They are also having a "Make an Offer" special on antiques and there is a Fill-a-Bag Clothing Extravaganza.
Don't forget to "shop" for a new kitty too! This month only all cats one year or older are $30, a savings of $60."

CBSA Perspective: "Roche site in Boulder to be sold, operated as Corden Pharma"
Quoting from the Alicia Wallace report in the Boulder Daily Camera:
"The 265-person Roche Colorado site in Boulder is expected to be sold to International Chemical Investors Group, officials for both companies announced Wednesday....
'What's nice is it's such a specialized technical facility' that Roche still needs, said Holli Reibel, president and CEO of the Colorado BioScience Association. 'And (Corden) might really bring more product to the plant, which is excellent for Colorado.'
More and more, Reibel added, biotech and pharmaceutical companies have made moves to focus on their core capabilities and have opted to outsource manufacturing efforts elsewhere -- sometimes overseas. Corden Pharma, being a large contract manufacturer with an international reach, should be a welcome addition to Colorado's bioscience community, she said."

CID4 Awards Funding and Management Assistance to Longmont's Flashback Technologies - "Advanced Patient Monitoring To Predict Patient Outcome"
Quoting from this morning's news release: "The Colorado Institute for Drug, Device and Diagnostic Development (CID4has selected Longmont, Colorado-based Flashback Technologies, Inc. to receive funding and management assistance. Flashback is advancing development of their proprietary learning framework for the real-time analysis of physiological data.
Hemorrhage is the number one cause of potentially preventable death on the battlefield and in civilian trauma settings. Work under development includes a device powered by software that quickly and reliably detects and estimates blood loss volume and predicts a time to cardiovascular collapse.
Discoveries at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus, Department of Surgery, the University of Colorado, Boulder, Department of Computer Science, and the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research have revealed several previously unknown hemodynamic relationships leading to a patent-pending platform technology for the real-time analysis of human vital sign data. A set of algorithms, collectively termed the Cardiovascular Reserve Monitor (CRM), is under development with funding from the U.S. Army. The CRM takes as inputs non-invasive physiological sensor data that in real-time: 1) Detects the early onset of hypovolemia (blood loss) 2) Estimates blood loss volume, and 3) Predicts a patient's individual risk for cardiovascular collapse."
